Dmitri Shostakovich Symphony No. 10 Mvt. II
Dmitri Shostakovich Symphony No. 10 Mvt. II
Arranged by Paul Fadoul for 9 Players
PERFORMANCE NOTES
This mallet arrangement of the second movement of Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 10, is an adaptation of an arrangement performed for the mixed interdisciplinary ensemble, Dark by Five (violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet, piano, and percussion). For the vast majority of the arrangement, I used the original dynamic and expression markings with their overwhelming fortissimos, with the understanding that an interpretation would be more nuanced. . Ideally, the piece can be performed using five marimbas (two fiveoctaves, one 4.5 octave, two four-octaves), two vibraphones, and a concert snare drum. However, if you put player 9 on timpani, the piece will only require two five-octaves and three four-octaves.
